Episode 2: Build Your Business by Winning More Moments

On a trail-running excursion with his son’s wrestling team, Brigham got into a race with the team’s coach. They zipped up and down the mountain leaving the boys in the dust.

Brigham won, barely, but felt like he lost. He felt like he lost because he made what should have been a fun team run into a self-centered contest.

Brigham lost the moment. And from it, he learned that to win the moment requires being present and selfless.

To win more moments is to do what is right over what is easy, as well as what benefits all over what benefits only you.

Josh warns though: while it’s good to learn from mistakes, we should always be cautious not be negative and dwell in the past. You also need to articulate what it means for each job in your company to win the moment.

In summary:

  • The success of your business is a result of the little moments you win each day.
  • To win more moments, you have to define what success looks like for every job.
  • You also need to articulate why that is what success looks like.
  • Finally, outline the specific steps, truths, principles and values you need to follow to get there.
